Mobile IP Conditional Binding Update
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mobile IP protocols use a correspondent registration procedure between a Mobile Node (MN) and its Correspondent Nodes (CNs) to maintain a valid and up-to-date binding association between MN’s home address and its current care-ofaddress whenever a handover occurs. This procedure plays a key role in optimizing the routing path between the two parties by avoiding any kind of dog-leg routing across the home network or the previous visited network. However, such a procedure reveals its inefficiency in multicast communication as multicast sources do not need to know the identity of multicast receivers and to interfere with their mobility events. Without an additional intelligence on Mobile IP entities to assess the nature of the communication session established with a CN, such behavior introduces an extra processing and inefficient use of the network resources for both CN and MN. In an attempt to solve these problems, we propose a new adaptive solution to enhance Mobile IP protocols (Mobile IPv4, Mobile IPv6, and Moving Network). In this regard, we extend Mobile IP specifications with two new registration schemes: dynamic address update and non-dynamic address update in response to the multicasting nature of CN. With these two new schemes, MN and their mobility agents will be able to sense their communications and distinguish between multicast and unicast sources and therefore block sending binding information to multicast sources. We evaluate our solution by quantifying analytically the gain of the binding update messages that could be avoided in different mobility management scenarios. A Mobility-Based Binding Update Strategy in Hierarchical Mobile IPv6
Since the frequent emission of binding requests and updates would result in a relative high signaling overhead, the determining the lifetime value of binding cache is the most important issue in Mobile IP. We present in this paper a mobility based binding update strategy in Mobile IPv6. In our proposal, mobile node’s lifetime can be adjusted from minimum value to maximum value according to the ...
متن کاملFast Location Opposite Update Scheme for Minimizing Handover Latency over Wireless/Mobile Networks
Mobile IP (Internet Protocol) allows a mobile node to send and receive packets with its home IP address, regardless of the IP address of its current point of attachment in the Internet. Since Mobile IP induces the handover latency due to mobility management operations, fast handover algorithms have been studied to reduce the latency. In this paper, we optimize the handover procedure in Fast Han...
متن کاملSecure Mobile IP with HIP Style Handshaking and Readdressing for public-key based IP network
Mobile IP allows a mobile node to roam into a foreign IP network without losing its connection with its peer. Mobile IPv6 uses Route Optimization to improve the routing performance by avoiding the triangle routing problem and adopting Return Routability as a secure process for binding update. Host Identity Protocol (HIP) is an experimental security protocol which provides mobility management an...
متن کاملR-BU : Recursive Binding Update for Route Optimization in Nested Mobile Networks
This paper proposes Recursive Binding Update (R-BU) that optimizes routing for nested mobile networks. Nested mobile network is a hierarchical form of mobile networks, e.g. a wireless personal area network (PAN) in a vehicular network. A mobile network moves as a single unit with one or more mobile routers that connect it to the global Internet. Nested mobile networks have pinball routing probl...
متن کاملEfficient Mobile IP Location Update Mechanism for Idle Terminals in Optical Wireless Integrated Access Networks
During an off-peak hour of a day, a Mobile Terminal (MT) can stay in idle mode for long time as there is no incoming or outgoing packet. An idle MT can move from one location to another and the wireless access network keeps tracking the idle MT. Idle MTs need to assist the wireless access network for location update; so that, on call arrival the network can route the call successfully. Mean whi...
